San Miguel de Allende is, quite simply, a wonder. It occupies a fascinating space of culture, history and style. Dating back over 400 years, initially as a post stop on the royal road for the silver to the north, it is cited by Conde Nast and Travel + Leisure as the Best City in the World. Already known as a significant colonial town involved in the Mexican fight for independence, it has now become a well established Anglo expat, cosmopolitan community. The non-humid climate is superb with the lows at night reaching the low 40s and in daytime up to low 70s and 80s which allows for its vibrant street life.
The town is centrally located between the two significant and beautiful towns of Guanajuato and Queretaro only an hour away, both with easy air access to multiple sites in the United States such as Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas and Miami. If it’s a beach you want, these airports offer one hour flights to Puerto Escondido, Huatulco, Zijuatanejo and Puerto Vallarta.
Real estate here offers a fascinating and wide variety of homes, large and small, simple and authentic or palatial and extravagant. From older historic houses with baroque details to modern, international styles with the feel of the Mediterranean, there are no end of places to look at. Whether in the historic center or in the wide open campos and fields outside of town, the combined value of the dollar and more than reasonable pricing allows the opportunity to own a home in a lovely and almost unique setting as there are few places where gentility, art, culture and history provide so much in such a small and intimate setting.
