The San Miguel Fair
The San Miguel Fair or Feria San Miguel de Allende occurs every year to celebrate the affluence of the city and its patron Saint Michael the Archangel. Year after year, the patron saint is the incentive for the ringing of bells, traditional mañanitas, and parades through the principal streets of the city, amidst other religious activities. However, this year is somewhat special with the celebrations reflecting the 480th anniversary of San Miguel de Allende. San Miguel de Allende is not only the heart of Guanajuato, but also of all of Mexico, as it is deemed one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
During the fair, Saint Michael the Archangel and the city’s cultural wealth, economic pride, and beautiful architecture are the overarching objectives to celebrate. The days of commemoration begin on September 26 and extend to October 9. With all the best traditions that remain constant in the culture of San Miguel and exciting entertainment opportunities catered to all groups, regardless of age. Truly the perfect festivity to appreciate in the company of the whole family.
The plethora of activities during the days of the fair is so diverse, offering a wide selection that incorporates everything from the ritual of the Papantla Flyers, wrestling shows, children's shows to the burning of fireworks, the inevitable circuit of mechanical games, and representations of folkloric ballet.
And when the day begins to fade and night settles in, esteemed groups as well as groups of local talent surprise the masses with sensational performances. Each night a different group performs, constantly keeping the festivities spontaneous and exciting for everyone involved.
